Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement communication, public relations, and marketing strategies to promote and expand public participation in recreational and cultural programs and activities.
  • Conceptualize marketing and promotional plans for designated programs.
  • Produce and manage content on the department’s website and social media platforms.
  • Write and design print and digital marketing materials including brochures, flyers, advertisements, newsletters, and signage.
  • Represent the department in community events.
  • Engage corporate sponsorships to support special events and programs.
  • Manage the budget and procurement processes for marketing activities.
  • Develop and update annual marketing plan to promote the department’s programs and special events, defining strategies and tactics to reach multiple audiences.
  • Establish and maintain the department’s website and social media presence; monitor pages to ensure information is consistent and professionally presented; advise other staff on best use of social media.
  • Design and produce promotional materials for events and programs; compose materials and edit information for marketing documents; ensure consistent look and brand standards; review and approve materials from colleagues.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence and evaluations; assist with budget preparation and finances; keep records of expenses and monitor budget allocations.
  • Work on special projects such as new departmental campaigns, new programs, and accreditation process.
  • Provide support to other staff as needed; perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Marketing, Public Relations, Graphic Design, Recreation Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Have a valid driver’s license in the state of North Carolina
  • Be proficient with Desktop Publishing (Adobe Creative Suites) and MS Office.
  • Have a CPR and/or First Aid certification or be able to obtain within 6 months, training will be provided for the selected candidate if needed.

Preferred

  • Three (3) or more years of experience in planning, marketing, promotions, graphic design, website management, sponsorships, and advertisements related to special events and recreation programming strongly preferred.
