Job Summary

The role owns shaping Iceberg community strategy and AWS leadership through active advocacy, content creation, and ecosystem partnerships across committer progression, releases, and governance.

  • Own community strategy and developer advocacy
  • Drive content, events, and launch storytelling
  • Build and maintain ecosystem partnerships and governance influence

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Represent AWS in the community. Be an active, opinionated participant in Iceberg community channels, mailing lists, and core specification discussions. Build the credibility and relationships needed to influence how the project evolves.
  • Build contributor credibility. Participate in the project, shepherd work through the community review process, and build toward committer and PMC recognition.
  • Create content and evangelize. Publish blogs, tutorials, and samples, and show up at the Iceberg Summit, meetups, and conferences with hands-on talks and workshops that demonstrate AWS’s Iceberg leadership.
  • Amplify releases and milestones. Partner with engineering and DevRel to turn changelogs, spec progress, and feature launches (for example V3 support, multi-table transactions, and performant merge-on-read) into launch stories across community and social channels.
  • Grow ecosystem partnerships. Build collaborative relationships with friendly partners and vendors (for example Snowflake and Netflix) to proactively help move the project forward and to strengthen AWS’s collective voice in governance.
  • Be the community’s voice inside AWS. Bring developer pain points, specification direction, and ecosystem opportunities into AWS roadmap conversations. Partner with product marketing to keep positioning grounded in how developers actually talk about Iceberg.
  • Set the strategy. Define community health and influence metrics (committers earned, PRs merged, specification working groups joined, community relationships built) and evolve the playbook as AWS’s standing in the project grows.

Requirements

  • Experience writing technical articles, speaking at technology conferences, and contributing to open source
  • 6+ years of professional experience in developer advocacy, developer relations, open source community management, or technical evangelism
  • Hands-on experience with data lake, data lakehouse, or analytics technologies (for example Apache Iceberg, Spark, Flink, Trino, or comparable systems)
  • Experience contributing to or actively engaging with open source projects and their communities

Preferred

  • Experience using data and metrics to measure impact and determine improvements
  • Experience communicating results to senior leadership, or experience communicating complex information and solutions to senior stakeholders and influencing decisions
  • Direct experience with Apache Iceberg or the broader data lakehouse ecosystem
  • Established standing in an Apache Software Foundation, CNCF, or comparable open source community
  • Committer or PMC (Project Management Committee) experience on an Apache or similarly governed project
  • Familiarity with the Iceberg ecosystem across Spark, Flink, Trino, PyIceberg, and Iceberg Rust
  • Experience building or running a DevRel program in partnership with engineering and product marketing
  • Existing relationships across Iceberg vendors and partners (for example Snowflake, Netflix, and others in the ecosystem)

Amazon

Amazon is guided by four principles: customer obsession rather than competitor focus, passion for invention, commitment to operational excellence, and long-term thinking. We are driven by the excitement of building technologies, inventing products, and providing services that change lives. We embrace new ways of doing things, make decisions quickly, and are not afraid to fail. We have the scope and capabilities of a large company, and the spirit and heart of a small one. Together, Amazonians research and develop new technologies from Amazon Web Services to Alexa on behalf of our customers: shoppers, sellers, content creators, and developers around the world. Our mission is to be Earth's most customer-centric company. Our actions, goals, projects, programs, and inventions begin and end with the customer top of mind. You'll also hear us say that at Amazon, it's always "Day 1." What do we mean? That our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon's very first day - to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and focus on delighting our customers.
