Job Description

DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

Remote | Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

POSITION SUMMARY

One Firefly is a remote-first marketing agency and the leading provider of marketing services to the residential and commercial AV and custom integration industry. Since 2007, we have grown to nearly 80 team members, serve 600+ active clients across North America, and have earned six Inc. 5000 recognitions. We are approaching $10 million in annual revenue and investing aggressively in AI-powered product capabilities and platform development.

We are looking for a Director of Finance to join our Executive Management Team and own the financial health and operational clarity of the business. This is a seat at the leadership table, not a back-office role. You will report directly to the CEO, work across every function in the company, and provide financial oversight of our Project Management team, the team responsible for delivering our services and managing our largest cost driver: labor.

This is the right opportunity if you want real ownership, a company with momentum, and the chance to build financial systems and processes that will support the next phase of growth. We run on EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System), which means clear accountability, structured rhythms, and a leadership culture built on data and honest conversation.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Financial Operations and Forecasting

  • Own and maintain accurate, timely financial reporting, delivering clear and actionable insight across the P&L.
  • Build, maintain, and continuously improve rolling forecasts covering revenue, margin, and cash flow.
  • Monitor daily cash flow and proactively manage the Company's financial position, balancing liabilities, capital expenditures, and owner distributions.
  • Drive the annual budgeting process and maintain ongoing budget-vs-actual tracking across all departments.
  • Partner with Sales and Operations to ensure pipeline, onboarding, and churn are accurately reflected in forecasts.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the fractional CFO, preparing materials, surfacing risks, and ensuring clean data for strategic decision-making.
  • Partner with the external CPA on tax-related matters.
  • Provide financial coaching and oversight to the Accounting team and serve as backup for transactional support when needed.

Project Management Oversight

Labor is our single largest cost driver. You will provide financial and operational oversight of the Project Management function, ensuring resource and capacity decisions are grounded in financial targets.

  • Lead and develop Project Management team leads, providing coaching, goal-setting, accountability, and performance oversight.
  • Ensure labor and resource models are functioning effectively and that capacity decisions align with financial targets and forecast assumptions.
  • Monitor utilization rates, billable-to-non-billable ratios, and labor margin across service lines.
  • Identify and escalate risks early, before they reach the P&L.
  • Partner with the Executive VP of Operations to align labor efficiency with service quality and client outcomes.

Executive and Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Serve as an active member of the Executive Management Team (EMT), participating in weekly L10 meetings and quarterly planning.
  • Partner with department leaders to drive budget accountability and sound financial decision-making.
  • Provide financial guidance on client-related matters with cost or margin implications.
  • Support People Operations on payroll-related financial approvals and workforce cost planning.
  • Run toward problems. This role is expected to surface risks and bring solutions, not wait for issues to escalate.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 7+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 3 years at the Controller, Finance Manager, or Director level.
  • Background in a services-based business: agency, consulting, staffing, or managed services strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record owning a financial close process and delivering clean, timely reporting.
  • Experience leading and developing team members, including coaching, performance management, and driving accountability.
  • Strong understanding of service business economics: utilization, billable rates, capacity planning, and labor margin.
  • Ability to build and maintain financial models, forecasts, and budget-vs-actual analyses.
  • Clear communicator who can translate financial data into plain-language guidance for non-finance stakeholders.
  • Hands-on experience with AI tools applied to financial processes and productivity.
  • High ownership mentality. You treat the Company's financial health as personally important.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field. CPA is a plus.
  • Experience with common agency accounting platforms such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Total target compensation: $140,000 to $180,000 (base salary plus performance bonus). Bonus is tied to EBITDA attainment and leadership team survey scores, structured to reward the exact behaviors this role requires.
  • Remote-first culture. We have been fully remote since 2015.
  • Health, Dental, and Vision insurance, 100% paid for the employee.
  • 10 paid holidays and increasing PTO with tenure, plus volunteer days.
  • Simple IRA with 3% company match.
  • Personal development allowance that grows with tenure.
  • Company-provided computer and office supply funds.
  • Paid parental leave and in-person team events.

WHO WE ARE

One Firefly is the leading marketing agency serving technology professionals in the residential and commercial AV and custom integration industry. We have been growing and serving this market since 2007, longer and deeper than anyone else in the space.

We are a six-time Inc. 5000 honoree, serve 700+ active clients across North America, and operate with a fully remote team distributed across the globe. We run on EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System), which gives everyone on the team clear roles, measurable goals, and a structured way to solve problems and drive results.

We are in build mode. In addition to our core marketing services, we are actively investing in AI-powered product capabilities that will expand what we offer our clients and how we operate internally. The person who joins as Director of Finance will play a direct role in making sure we have the financial foundation and operational clarity to execute on that vision.

Our purpose is to help people feel proud, prosperous, and connected. That starts with our own team.
