Communications and Marketing Internship at Maria Mitchell Association

Responsibilities

• Assist with updating, distributing and placement of advertising, collateral materials, bulletin boards, press releases, website, social media, and other marketing communication tools
• Photograph a variety of programs including Discovery Camps, special events, and other programs as needed
• Prepare email and written communications about MMA’s events and programs
• Assist with design of marketing materials, including advertisements and social media
• Liaise with third party consultants on the development of original social media content and management of social and editorial calendars (if needed)
• Assist with event planning and implementation of activities surrounding annual special events/fundraisers
• Assist as needed with other departments at the MMA
• Draft and design event collateral such as sponsor, auction, and fundraising posters/signs
• Take part in MMA service projects of 1-2 hours per week
• Assist with observatory open nights at front desk

Requirements

• A strong interest in marketing and communications within a non-profit setting
• Experience with many forms of social media and e-marketing
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and Excel required
• Ability to lift 50 lbs
• Experience with digital photography
• An independent worker who can take initiative
• At least two years of college, or relevant work experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to multi-task and work in a busy environment
• Willingness and ability to work cooperatively in a team setting, adapt to change, and take supervisory direction

Preferred

• Knowledge of or proficiency in Canva and Flodesk, and other graphic design platforms such as InDesign, Illustrator, and LucidPress are a plus
