Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Create, shoot, edit and publish social-first content including Reels, TikToks, YouTube Shorts, carousels, graphics and videos, translating IndieWire articles, interviews, reviews, rankings, breaking news and original video into compelling social storytelling
  • Own day-to-day publishing and platform optimization across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Threads and X, including captions, headlines, thumbnails, metadata and publishing calendars
  • Produce real-time social coverage from festivals, awards shows, premieres and industry events , including Sundance, Cannes and TIFF, capturing interviews, behind-the-scenes access and timely moments for rapid turnaround
  • Shoot and edit polished social video using iPhones and other production tools, with a strong understanding of framing, lighting and audio, and create fast-turn edits in Adobe Premiere Pro and other social editing platforms
  • Partner with IndieWire editors and video teams to identify the strongest social opportunities from breaking news, interviews, reviews, rankings, awards coverage, original franchises and IndieWire’s video archive
  • Help grow IndieWire’s YouTube and YouTube Shorts presence , identifying strong cutdowns and optimizing titles, thumbnails, descriptions and programming for discoverability, watch time and audience growth
  • Develop original and recurring social formats that showcase filmmakers, actors, craftspeople and the creative process while strengthening IndieWire’s distinct social identity
  • Use analytics and audience insights to inform strategy , test new formats and creative approaches, and support sponsored campaigns and branded content when needed

Requirements

  • At least 3+ years of experience creating social media and video content for an entertainment, media, publishing, film or news brand
  • Deeply knowledgeable and passionate about film, television, filmmakers, awards season and entertainment culture, with a strong understanding of IndieWire’s audience and editorial point of view
  • A social media native with strong knowledge of Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and other major social platforms
  • A strong writer and visual storyteller who can create sharp captions, headlines and hooks and recognize the social moment within a larger story, interview or event
  • Comfortable shooting high-quality content on an iPhone and editing and publishing quickly in real-time environments
  • Strong editorial judgment and comfortable working with filmmakers, actors, publicists and other entertainment industry professionals
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple platforms, shoots, deadlines and deliverables in a fast-moving environment
  • Collaborative, resourceful and willing to travel for festivals, awards shows, events and special productions as needed

Preferred

  • Experience working for a film, television, entertainment or culture publication
  • Experience covering major film festivals, particularly Sundance, Cannes and TIFF
  • Experience producing filmmaker, actor and entertainment industry interview content
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro; After Effects, CapCut, Photoshop or Canva experience is a plus
  • Experience creating high-performing short-form video and Instagram carousels
  • Experience growing YouTube, YouTube Shorts and other social audiences
  • Familiarity with YouTube Studio, Instagram Insights, social analytics, SEO and audience development
  • A portfolio demonstrating strong social video, editorial storytelling, event coverage and creative social content
