Job Description

Responsibilities

  • The position oversees the campus enrollment marketing team and is responsible for campaign planning, content strategy, digital and traditional advertising, email marketing, enrollment-focused web content, social media, market research, performance analysis, budget management and vendor coordination.
  • Working closely within the Division of Digital Transformation and Technology and throughout ODU, the director ensures that marketing efforts are aligned with institutional priorities, enrollment goals and university brand standards.
  • The director uses audience insights, enrollment data and campaign performance to guide decisions, strengthen recruitment outcomes and continuously improve communications journeys.
  • The role also manages competing priorities, establishes clear workflows and accountability for the team, and serves as a strategic marketing partner to campus leaders.
  • The director guides efforts for undergraduate, graduate, transfer, international, military-affiliated and other priority populations.
  • The director provides strategic direction across digital, content, creative, web, email, paid media and other marketing functions without serving as the technical specialist in each area.
  • The director develops, manages and monitors marketing budgets, evaluates competing investment priorities and oversees vendor expenditures.

Requirements

  • Education:Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business administration, higher education or a related field; or a combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in the preceding fields.
  • Considerable knowledge of enrollment marketing, audience strategy and integrated campaign planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a multidisciplinary marketing team, set priorities, coordinate work and hold team members accountable for results.
  • Demonstrated ability to use data, market insights and performance measures to guide strategy and decision-making.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration and relationship-management skills, including the ability to work effectively with senior leaders, enrollment teams, academic units and other institutional partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic direction across digital, content, creative, web, email, paid media and other marketing functions without serving as the technical specialist in each area.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, manage and monitor marketing budgets, evaluate competing investment priorities and oversee vendor expenditures.
  • Considerable professional marketing experience, preferably in higher education, enrollment marketing or a related field.
  • Considerable supervisory or team-leadership experience.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in marketing, communications, business administration, higher education or a related field; or a bachelor’s degree in a related field with experience equivalent to a master’s degree.
