Job Summary

Coordinate university-wide communications to elevate brand through media relations, digital storytelling, and strategic events.

  • Media Relations: Craft and disseminate press releases, advisories, op-eds, and pitches to local, regional, and national media.
  • Digital Content & Training: Identify and train deans and faculty in media interviewing, op-ed writing, and building an active digital presence.
  • Digital Strategy & Content: Develop and execute digital strategies with the Executive Director of Communications across university websites and social channels.

Job Description

Coordinate university-wide communications to elevate brand through media relations, digital storytelling, and strategic events.

  • Media Relations: Craft and disseminate press releases, advisories, op-eds, and pitches to local, regional, and national media.
  • Digital Content & Training: Identify and train deans and faculty in media interviewing, op-ed writing, and building an active digital presence.
  • Digital Strategy & Content: Develop and execute digital strategies with the Executive Director of Communications across university websites and social channels.
  • Strategic Events: Develop and strengthen special events to attract prospective students and news media as part of broader communications initiatives.
  • Editorial & Publications: Write and edit university publications such as Widener Insider and Daily News Briefing.
  • Editorial Production: Manage editorial, production, and distribution of the Widener alumni magazine with Development & Alumni Engagement and University Relations.
  • Media Coverage Analytics: Develop statistical reports on university news media coverage.
  • Video Content: Shoot and edit video content for social media and other digital platforms.
  • Event Support & Coverage: Attend university events, gather information, take photographs, and generate news content highlighting community.
  • Web Content Updates: Regularly update website content to support current priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and one to three years of Public Relations, Communications or Journalism experience. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Excellent writing and copy-editing skills, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks on deadline.
  • A creative approach to storytelling.
  • The ability to shoot and edit digital photography.

Preferred

  • Previous website content maintenance experience.
  • Experience using Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube for on-brand strategic messaging.
  • The ability to shoot and edit video.
  • Higher education experience.
