Job Summary

Own the execution of student PR support, content production, and media outreach to keep public affairs and tourism narratives moving across multiple partners.

  • Content & Media Center: develop story ideas, draft press materials, and manage What’s New in California style publications for broad distribution.
  • Media Outreach & Monitoring: distribute media leads, organize gallery assets, monitor coverage, and share results with partners.
  • Campaigns & Partnerships: assist in public affairs campaigns on sustainable tourism and economic reporting, coordinating with partners and local officials.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Support global public relations content development, including managing Media Center content, researching story ideas, and writing and editing materials such as press releases and publications like What’s New in California.
  • Assist with distribution of media leads to industry partners and organization of global media gallery assets.
  • Support earned media monitoring and reporting by identifying key coverage, inputting and analyzing metrics, and sharing results with partners.
  • Monitor news and social media coverage, particularly during crisis situations, and assist in coordinating with destination partners and local officials.
  • Assist in the development and execution of public affairs campaigns on topics such as sustainable tourism, workforce impacts, and economic reporting.
  • Conduct research and prepare written materials, including opinion editorials, legislative communications, and other public affairs correspondence.
  • Support media relations activities including press events, press trip research, itinerary development, and coordination.
  • Track partner outreach and engagement using Salesforce.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned by the Public Relations team.

Requirements

  • Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list.

  • Students must be enrolled in at least: six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.
  • Students declared major must match the major(s) listed in the job posting.
  • Majors/Fields of Study: Communications, Public Relations, Public Affairs, Marketing, Parks, Recreation or Tourism.
  • Prerequisites

Preferred

  • Familiarization with the legislative process or current public policy issues in California a plus.
  • Editing/proofing experience a plus.
