Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualise, script and pitch highly engaging social-first content ideas aligned with government priorities while maintaining deep awareness of fast-moving platform trends, algorithm shifts and emerging formats across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and beyond. Bring a genuine instinct for what resonates with diverse public audiences.
  • Own full end-to-end video production independently, shooting, hosting where required, and self-editing high-quality content optimised for each platform's native formats and technical requirements. Consistently meet GMU quality standards while working at pace across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Interview diverse members of the UK public, government employees and ministers to transform complex government initiatives into relatable, culturally relevant human-interest stories. Draw out authentic perspectives that connect citizens with government work in a meaningful and accessible way.
  • Work closely with channel managers, producers and story hunters to ensure all content is accessible, factually accurate and compliant with data protection and consent requirements. Apply platform-specific technical standards and GMU brand guidelines consistently across all outputs.
  • Embrace AI as a collaborative and creative tool, utilising within your workflows; experimenting, testing and implementing new tools to increase productivity and deliver at pace.

Requirements

  • Experience / Ability
  • You have a proven track record of creating engaging video content for platforms like TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, or Facebook (either commercially, for a brand/charity, or on your own successful personal channels).
  • You are comfortable behind the camera (shooting high-quality vertical video on smartphones or lightweight kits) and are confident and natural in front of the camera when a format calls for it.
  • You have an eye for a good story and know how to write clear, punchy captions, video scripts, and on-screen text.
  • You are a people person. You have the empathy and communication skills needed to interview diverse groups of people- from everyday citizens to senior officials - making them feel comfortable and drawing out authentic perspectives.
  • While you love to experiment and take creative risks, you respect the rules. You understand the importance of accuracy, brand guidelines, and securing proper contributor consent and permissions.
  • Background in communications, journalism, digital media, or a related field.

Preferred

  • Experience in video production and editing, using tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar software.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (or equivalent tools), with expertise in video editing.
