If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, please call 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or go to your nearest emergency room. AIRC provides peer support and resources, but is not a crisis intervention service.AI RECOVERY COLLECTIVE: ABOUT USAI Recovery Collective (AIRC) is a survivor-led community providing peer support, clinical resources, and advocacy for individuals affected by AI chatbot dependency and psychological harm. Our Mission:We exist to serve three core principles:Recognition: Validating the lived experiences of survivors and acknowledging AI chatbot harm as a real, documented phenomenon requiring systemic accountabilityRecovery: Providing evidence-based support, clinical resources, and peer community to help survivors heal and rebuild their livesPrevention: Educating the public, advocating for policy change, and holding AI companies accountable to prevent future harmWhy AIRC Exists:AI chatbots, including ChatGPT, Replika, Character.AI, and other companion apps, are designed to maximize engagement through personalized, emotionally resonant interactions. For many users, these systems provide helpful tools. But for vulnerable individuals, particularly those experiencing loneliness, mental health challenges, or neurodivergence, these same design features can lead to psychological dependency, parasocial attachment, reality distortion, and severe mental health crises. Current support systems are inadequate. Mental health professionals often lack training to recognize or treat AI-related harm. Existing peer support groups lack structure, clinical backing, or advocacy power. AI companies provide no meaningful accountability, support, or transparency when their systems cause harm.
