Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Translate complex operational and corporate initiatives into clear, actionable messaging that resonates with team members.
  • Strengthen understanding of business decisions and operational changes by developing comprehensive content strategies and tactics to reach diverse audiences across multiple internal and external channels.
  • Manage and support internal and external communications channels to effectively reach team members, leadership and support staff, as well as media.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of American’s business practices and the broader airline industry.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, and understand stakeholder needs.
  • Develop and execute compelling communications strategies around sensitive and fast-moving issues with tight deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with leaders and stakeholders across the Global Engagement team.
  • Use metrics to make recommendations and decisions regarding communications strategies and plans.
  • Ensure consistency in tone of voice and style for copy across all content and channels while keeping the American Airlines style guide current.
  • Edit and write copy for internal and external channels with a keen eye for detail and alignment of messaging.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience/training.
  • 3 years of relevant work experience in communications or media relations.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in aviation and the commercial airline industry.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in aircraft maintenance and aviation safety.

Preferred

  • 5 years of relevant work experience in communications or media relations.
  • Experience working in corporate communications or media relations for a large, multi-national organization.
  • Graphic design experience helpful.
