Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Writing and editing op-eds, emails, and more
  • Developing and creating social campaigns and content from our brand accounts and beyond
  • Using the full suite of digital content tools to drive SAM messaging
  • Outreach to print, broadcast, podcast, new media, and everything else
  • Researching drug policy issues at the state and federal level
  • Promoting key events for the organization and its principals
  • Generally supporting the Director of Content and Editorial Strategy

Requirements

  • 3-5 years’ progressive experience in political communications, journalism, or a related field
  • Experience working in political/advocacy communications on Capitol Hill or as a writer/editor at an established publication with a political/policy focus
  • Strong writing chops; an edit test will be required
  • Comfortable using digital platforms (social media, email, audio, and video) to distill complex policy issues into powerful and relatable narratives
  • Familiar with state and federal policy around marijuana, other drugs, and public health
  • Adopt a can-do, positive attitude in high-pressure situations
  • Familiar with digital design platforms like Canva
  • Proficient with WordPress CMS
  • Familiar with email platforms like Mailchimp and Constant Contact
  • DC-only position (location in Washington, DC)
