Jumpstart is a national early education nonprofit working toward the day every child in America enters kindergarten prepared to succeed. We provide evidence-based language, literacy, and life skills programming to preschool children from underserved communities, delivered by a broad network of trained college students and community volunteers. Since our founding in 1993, Jumpstart has supported over 209,000 children and mobilized more than 71,000 volunteers. New York represents one of Jumpstart's most established and opportunity rich markets, with strong institutional partnerships and momentum for continued growth.

Position Overview

The Regional Director, New York serves as Jumpstart's senior leader in the region, responsible for accelerating market momentum, deepening institutional partnerships, and expanding philanthropic investment.

This role builds on an existing foundation of program presence and community credibility, focusing on scaling reach, strengthening sustainability, and positioning New York as a flagship regional model.

The Regional Director reports directly to the CEO and serves as Jumpstart's chief external ambassador across the New York early education and philanthropic ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

Regional Strategy and Growth Leadership

  • Lead New York's regional strategy, building from existing program and partnership momentum.
  • Identify opportunities to deepen impact across boroughs and partner systems.
  • Align regional execution with national scaling priorities.

Program Enablement

  • Partner with program leadership to ensure strong implementation and partner experience.
  • Identify opportunities to pilot innovations, partnerships, or delivery enhancements.
  • Represent Jumpstart in local coalitions, task forces, and public forums, positioning the organization as a leader in the early learning and broader education ecosystems.
  • Elevate regional insights to inform national strategy.

Regional Engagement & Revenue Activation

  • Lead the strategy and execution of regional engagement experiences that advance revenue, brand visibility, and partnership development.
  • Serve as the regional lead for signature campaigns, including Read for the Record, ensuring strong local participation, sponsorship activation, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Design and host regional events, site visits, and funder engagements in partnership with national Development and Marketing teams to cultivate and steward major donors, institutional funders, and corporate partners.
  • Identify, pursue, and help secure public funding streams, including state and municipal grants

Program Alignment & Quality Enablement

  • Partner closely with program leadership to ensure strong implementation and partner satisfaction.
  • Surface regional insights, risks, and opportunities to inform national program innovation.
  • Support alignment between regional partnerships and program delivery strategy.

Market Visibility and Influence

  • Serve as Jumpstart's primary representative in public sector partnerships, coalitions, and early childhood collaboratives, including forums such as City's First Readers.
  • Position Jumpstart as a thought partner and leading voice in early childhood education across New York.
  • Elevate regional storytelling and impact narratives in partnership with Marketing and Communications.
  • Support media, public speaking, and advocacy opportunities.

Organizational Leadership

  • Serve as a core member of Jumpstart's national leadership cohort.
  • Contribute to cross-regional learning, innovation pilots, and growth initiatives
  • Manage the regional coordinator and ensure strong local operations.

Qualifications

Required

  • 10+ years of combined experience across education, nonprofit management, philanthropy, or community impact.
  • Deep partnership development expertise, including engaging diverse stakeholders including faculty, school leaders, funders, and community partners.
  • Clear communicator with strong strategic judgment, relationship-building, executive presence, and stakeholder influence skills.
  • Proven success securing philanthropic and/or public revenue
  • Experience operating in complex urban education ecosystems.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of New York's early education, higher education, and/or philanthropic landscape.
  • Experience leading growth in established markets.
  • Public funding or policy engagement experience.

Travel

Primarily regional travel across boroughs, with occasional national travel.

Physical Requirements

Salary & Benefits

Salary - $123,000 - $150,000, along with excellent benefits and a great mission-driven work environment
