Job Summary

Own cross-channel storytelling and campaigns that unite ESA communities, partners, and journals while coordinating with staff and volunteers to tell compelling ecology stories to the right audiences.

  • Growth & storytelling: align campaigns across journals, events, and education to engage members and advocates.
  • Channel ops: run social, web, and newsletters with consistent voice and visuals across campaigns.
  • Collaboration: work with internal teams and volunteers to surface stories that advance audience growth and engagement.

Job Description

Responsibilities
  • Contributing to our overall marketing and communications strategies across several communities and business lines
  • Marketing events, education and training, and membership; working with partners to align with strategies for our journals
  • Social media and web content management
  • Developing visual and multimedia collateral appropriate to each campaign and platform
  • Membership and community communication—newsletters, online community and listserv, social, web
  • Working across staff and volunteer teams to ensure that we are telling the stories we want to tell, using the appropriate voice, to the audiences we most need to reach
  • Travel to the ESA Annual Meeting and other business events.
Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience in communications and marketing
  • Experience with design and marketing automation tools—we specifically use Hootsuite, Canva and Feathr—and ethically and responsibly employing generative AI
  • A creative bent and talent for solving problems
  • Motivation to continuously seek new ways to do work well
  • Passion about the sciences and environment
  • This is a hybrid position located in Washinton, DC with some required in-office commuting.
Preferred
  • Ideally working in an association or professional society or advocacy organization.
