Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Develop bold, innovative social media concepts and strategies designed to reach and engage audiences, with a particular focus on reaching younger generations
  • Stay immersed in social media, internet culture, entertainment, news, emerging platforms, creators, memes, trends, and other cultural conversations, identifying opportunities for PETA to respond quickly and creatively
  • Lead the follow-through on ideas generated through PETA’s various brainstorms, turning promising concepts into actionable projects and driving them through completion
  • Proactively identify opportunities for PETA to become more timely, culturally relevant, creative, and effective on social media
  • Conceptualize and manage special social media projects from start to finish, including developing creative approaches, writing briefs and scripts, identifying collaborators, coordinating timelines, and ensuring successful execution
  • Work closely with the Audio/Visual department to develop social-first video concepts, including original shoots, humorous and staged videos, experiments with new formats, and other content designed specifically for social audiences
  • Serve as a key social media liaison to outside creative, social media, and advertising agencies; develop briefs, evaluate ideas, provide creative direction and feedback, and ensure that agency work is innovative, effective, and consistent with PETA’s mission and voice
  • Write, edit, and review social media copy and creative concepts, ensuring that content is compelling, accurate, on-brand, and optimized for each platform
  • Challenge existing approaches and continually identify ways to develop new social media series, formats, experiments, partnerships, and other opportunities to expand PETA’s reach and influence
  • Monitor social media performance and audience behavior and use insights to inform future creative and strategic decisions

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of five years of relevant social media, digital marketing, creative strategy, communications, or related experience
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing creative social media strategies and campaigns
  • Proven ability to take an idea from initial concept through execution, including coordinating with multiple stakeholders and managing complex projects
  • Extensive knowledge of major social media platforms, emerging platforms, internet culture, online trends, and the ways that younger audiences consume and share content
  • Exceptional creative instincts and the ability to identify timely opportunities and turn cultural moments into compelling content and campaigns
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to develop clear, compelling creative briefs and provide thoughtful, constructive creative direction
  • Experience working with creative agencies, production teams, vendors, or other outside partners
  • Strong editorial judgment and demonstrated ability to review and improve social media content
