Job Summary

Own and execute district-wide communications programs with a strong focus on media relations, emergency/crisis response, and production of audience-ready public materials that keep citizens informed and engaged.

  • Media relations and spokesperson duties with proactive, transparent engagement across local, state, and federal audiences.
  • Emergency communications coordination before, during, and after incidents, including joint information center support.
  • Public materials and outreach development, including traffic alerts, speeches, templates, and web updates.

Job Description

  • Establish and maintain relationships with the media and execute the district’s communication program.
  • Execute the VDOT strategic communications plan and statewide initiatives in the district.
  • Develop brochures and public involvement materials; create routine traffic alerts, speeches, talking points, news releases and presentations; update newsroom and project pages.
  • Provide emergency information before, during and after disasters and incidents; support joint information center operations and crisis communications as needed.
  • Execute proactive media relations and serve as a district spokesperson; maintain media contacts and advise staff on media engagement.
