Job Summary

Own Mercy Care’s communications ecosystem, coordinating internal messaging, media relations, crisis-readiness, and storytelling to strengthen alignment, advocacy voice, and donor connection across clinical, community, and mission-driven audiences.

  • Internal communications and culture: drive Take 5, culture updates, and leadership collaboration.
  • Media relations and thought leadership: proactive pitching, press materials, op-eds, and executive speaking.
  • Content, campaigns, and tone: write service-line copy, donor appeals, social content, and editorial governance.

Job Description

Internal Communications & Culture: Own Mercy Care’s internal communications and storytelling ecosystem, aligning culture and organizational messaging across teams.

  • Responsibilities: Internal Communications & Culture: manage Take 5 and collaboration with HR and leadership on people updates and culture initiatives.
  • Storytelling & Alignment: develop internal storytelling to strengthen alignment, morale, and mission connection.
  • Media Relations & Public Voice: lead media relations and position Mercy Care as a trusted voice in pediatrics, housing-as-healthcare, behavioral health, street outreach, and mobile care.
  • Crisis & External Communications: support crisis and rapid-response communications and draft op-eds, speeches, and thought leadership.
  • Content & Campaigns: write marketing copy for service-line materials, clinic communications, outreach campaigns, and donor messaging including appeals.
  • Social & Editorial Operations: create monthly social content plan, write captions and short scripts, and collaborate with creative teams on publishing.
  • Thought Leadership & Advocacy: develop op-eds and executive speeches to strengthen Mercy Care’s advocacy voice.
  • Editorial Governance & Tone: partner with the Director of Communications on tone, positioning, priority narratives, and editorial gatekeeping.
  • All-Hands Alignment: provide guidance ensuring communications align with brand and strategy.
  • Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Graphic Design, or related field
  • 7–10 years of professional experience in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field
  • AP‑style writing and editing
  • Proven experience in media relations, pitching, and crisis or high‑stakes messaging
  • Excellent judgment, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong collaboration skills and comfort working across teams
  • Preferred: Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred
  • Preferred: Healthcare, nonprofit, or mission‑driven experience strongly preferred
