Job Summary

Own the athletic communications operation and drive visibility for 20 plus varsity programs through media relations, digital content, and live coverage that supports student-athlete success.

  • Narrative & Media Relations: primary media contacts, interviews, and coverage for assigned sports
  • Digital Content & Live Coverage: website, social channels, streaming, and branding across all programs
  • Operations & People: lead staff, interns, and game day logistics while ensuring NCAA and conference reporting

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Lead the university’s Athletic Communications operation
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy to elevate the visibility and storytelling of 20+ varsity programs
  • Oversee all aspects of athletic communications: media relations, digital and social media strategy, live coverage, branding, and historical records
  • Work closely with coaches, administrators, and student-athletes to promote the success of FPU Athletics
  • Manage creation and distribution of external communications: game recaps, feature stories, press releases, and multimedia content
  • Serve as the primary media contact for assigned sports; cultivate relationships with local, regional, and national media; coordinate interviews, press opportunities, and coverage
  • Direct digital content strategy: website management, social media platforms, live streaming coordination, and graphic design direction
  • Supervise and mentor athletic communications staff, interns, and student workers
  • Manage statistical reporting, record-keeping, and historical archives; ensure timely reporting to NCAA and conference
  • Coordinate game day operations for home contests

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, sports management, journalism, or related field
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Prior experience in athletic communications, sports information, or media relations, preferably at the collegiate level
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling abilities
  • Experience managing digital platforms, including websites and social media
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with statistical software, content management systems, live streaming platforms, and graphic design tools (preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Commitment to supporting student-athlete success and enhancing the visibility of athletics programs

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in communications, sports management, journalism, or related field preferred
  • Experience with statistical software preferred
  • Experience with content management systems, live streaming platforms, and graphic design tools preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
