Job Summary

Own broad communications and brand consistency across channels, with clear ownership of media relations, executive communications, internal updates, fundraising support, and merchandise branding; measure impact and balance multiple concurrent campaigns.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that support organizational goals.
  • Create and manage graphics and written content for websites, magazine, email campaigns, social media, annual reports, and promotional materials.
  • Ensure consistent brand messaging and visual identity across all communication channels.
  • Draft press releases, talking points, speeches, and executive communications.
  • Manage media relations and serve as a point of contact for media inquiries.
  • Coordinate internal communications to keep staff, survivors, chapters, and partners informed.
  • Track and analyze communication metrics and provide performance reports.
  • Support fundraising, donor stewardship, events, and community outreach through strategic communications.
  • Oversee content calendars and marketing campaigns.
  • Develop and execute merchandise strategies that align with the organization’s brand and mission.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or Business Development preferred.
  • 2-3 years of experience required.
  • 5-7 years of experience preferred.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud programs (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) knowledge; writing experience preferred; basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite preferred.
  • Problem Solving and Reasoning Ability: ability to resolve problems in a timely manner and deal with a variety of situations where organization is required.
  • Language Skills: persuasive writing and strong verbal communications.
  • Customer Service Skills: manage difficult or emotional situations; respond to inquiries and needs of others; meet commitments.
  • Mathematical Skills: ability to perform basic arithmetic as described.
  • Computer Literacy: general knowledge of computers and software including word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, and database.
  • Interpersonal Skills: ability to interact at the executive level.

Preferred

  • Experience in fundraising, donor stewardship, events, and community outreach through strategic communications.

Today C.O.P.S. serves over 75,000 people who have identified themselves as survivors nationwide. C.O.P.S. provides programs at no cost to survivors, as they have already paid too high a price. C.O.P.S. hosts a summer camp for surviving children ages 6-14, an Outward Bound® Experience and an alternative camp-like retreat for surviving teens ages 15-20, and retreats for adult children, spouses, parents, siblings, extended family, fiancés/significant others, co-workers and co-workers spouses/significant others. A new program coming to C.O.P.S. is Spouses for Couples, which is for surviving spouses who have remarried. C.O.P.S. also hosts the Traumas of Law Enforcement Trainings, National Conference on Law Enforcement Wellness and Trauma, and the National Police Survivors Conference.
