Job Summary

Own media center operations and tech support in a learner-centered environment, balancing circulation, hardware/software trouble-shooting, and promotional activities to boost reading and research access.

  • Operations & Circulation: Supervise the circulation desk, check in new materials, and maintain orderly shelving and displays.
  • Tech & Research Support: Troubleshoot workstations, manage library automation and Dewey-based cataloging, and supervise computer use for research.
  • Promotions & Collaboration: Work with the media specialist to promote reading and coordinate promotions, displays, and classroom partnerships.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Work on projects with the media specialist.
  • Work cooperatively with students and staff in a learner-centered environment.
  • Balance many tasks while prioritizing and addressing frequent interruptions.
  • Be a self-starter and be able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Supervise the circulation desk, including the circulation and shelving of materials.
  • Assist students with location of appropriate instructional and recreational materials and supervise book exchange.
  • Have a working knowledge of computer applications, the library automation system and Dewey Decimal classification.
  • Supervise use of media center computers for research. Develop a working knowledge of research databases.
  • Be responsible for distributing, operating and troubleshooting audio-visual and other technology equipment.
  • Work with media specialist to promote a lifetime appreciation of reading through special promotions and reading aloud to students.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Will ingness and ability to learn.
  • Troubleshooting of technology workstations.
  • Proficiency with computer hardware and software.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to document processes and procedures.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Cooperative in achieving the desired technological goals of the school and district.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
