Job Summary

Capture and organize Palaver content at events, then turn it into a consistent storytelling stream across Instagram and Facebook while building an audience; you will also set up simple email capture at concerts and track signups.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Attend 10 performances and rehearsals over the eight week period
  • Capture photo and short-form video content: performances, rehearsals, student moments, ensemble behind-the-scenes
  • Build an organized content archive that the organization can draw from beyond this engagement
  • Post consistently across Instagram and Facebook (frequency TBD, quality over volume)
  • Write captions that reflect Palaver's voice: direct, warm, never generic
  • Maintain a content calendar with upcoming events and post timing
  • Treat every post and event as a list-building opportunity
  • Coordinate with Palaver staff on email capture at concerts (sign-up links, QR codes, CTAs in bio)
  • Track email sign-ups generated per event or campaign

Requirements

  • Location: Portland, ME (in-person attendance required)
  • Duration: 2 months, July 15, 2026 - September 15, 2026
  • Hours: Flexible ~10 hours per week
  • Engagement reports to: Maya French, Executive Director

Preferred

  • Genuine feel for music, arts, or community organizations, you don\u2019t need to be a classical music expert, but you need to care about what Palaver is doing
  • Strong visual and editorial instincts at small scale, you know what makes a good photo, a real caption, a post worth making
  • Comfortable working with limited direction, summer is active but Maya\u2019s bandwidth is limited; you should be able to operate with a brief and check in rather than require daily oversight
  • Understands the difference between building an audience and chasing an algorithm

Palaver Strings is a Grammy-nominated, musician-led string ensemble and nonprofit organization based in Portland, ME. Founded in 2014 and established as a nonprofit in 2015, Palaver has made its mark as a forward-thinking ensemble whose mission is to strengthen and inspire community through music. Palaver recruits musicians from top music training institutions in Boston, New York, Chicago, and beyond, bringing highly skilled musicians and educators to Portland and contributing to Maine’s cultural diversity and creative economy. The ensemble has performed at venues such as the Kennedy Center, National Sawdust, Tanglewood, Carnegie Hall, and others. Palaver’s 2024 album, A Change is Gonna Come, was nominated for a Grammy, and their album, Ready or Not (Azica Records, 2022), received acclaim from publications such as The Guardian and BBC Music Magazine.Equally committed to education, Palaver launched the Palaver Music Center in 2019, which now serves hundreds of Portland-area students each year, starting at birth through K-12. The ensemble has enjoyed residencies at Rockport Music, Boston Center for the Arts, Bay Chamber Concerts, and Longy School of Music, where ensemble members teach workshops, master classes, and graduate courses on music and community engagement.
