Job Summary

Support ASTHO's public health communications by assisting media outreach, monitoring opportunities, and coordinating guest appearances to expand reach and timely coverage.

  • Media Outreach: Draft news releases and pitches, develop media lists, and place stories with reporters.
  • Monitoring & Opportunities: Track news and social mentions to identify newsjacking opportunities and inform campaigns.
  • Campaign & Coordination: Plan social media campaigns, book guests for the Public Health Review Morning Edition, and collaborate with PR teams, programs, and vendors.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Assists with drafting news releases and statements, social media posts, and newsletter content
  • Assists with planning and promoting media briefings
  • Assists with developing social media campaigns for audience expansion
  • Tracks and monitors news for newsjacking opportunities
  • Develops media lists and pitches stories to reporters
  • Utilizes Meltwater to follow social media and news mentions for all members, state and territorial health departments, and public health topics
  • Identifies topics for the Public Health Review Morning Edition newscast and books guests
  • Attends meetings with public relations team, program teams, and vendors

Preferred

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field
  • Healthcare experience preferred
