Job Summary

Lead district communications and public relations across the district, coordinating public engagement and community liaison roles for three high schools.

  • Own district-wide communications and public relations services for the district, departments, and schools.
  • Must-have: Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing, or related field and 6 months to 1 year related experience.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • To provide communications/public relations services to the district, each department and school.
  • To function as a communications coordinator during emergencies on district or school levels.
  • To coordinate and manage district programs and events related to the school board or public engagement initiatives.
  • Serve as information liaison between the total school system and the community at large and represent the district within various community organizations.
  • Serve as the liaison between the district and the D230 Foundation board.
  • Develop and manage D230 Alumni programs and maintain a database for contact information of alumni and submit regular communication.
  • Solicit feedback through formal and informal means on activities, products, and purposes of the community relations program and the school district in general.
  • Develop email, voicemail, intranet, or other electronic systems that facilitate communication with and among employees, accompanied by procedures for the appropriate use of the system(s).
  • Assist with speeches for the Superintendent and Board of Education as needed.
  • Collaborate regularly within the schools within the district to support and influence community relation efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA) from a four-year college or university, in public relations, communications, marketing, or related field.
  • Six months to one-year related experience and/or training preferred
  • Ability to type and use computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, and other applicable database applications.
  • Demonstrated pursuit and interest in continuing education, professional growth, and/or participation in professional activities with an intent to maintain current knowledge and expertise in the field.
  • Relevant knowledge and experience in serving an educational organization in a leadership capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with all stakeholders in facilitating continuous organizational improvement.
  • Consistent record of leading and promoting educational, social, and professional equality and ethical decision-making.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders within the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain professional and productive relationships with all stakeholders.

Carl Sandburg High School - 13300 S. LaGrange Road Orland Park, IL 60462 Construction of the first high school in the newly consolidated district began in May, 1953. By September 1954, classes were in session at Carl Sandburg High School at 133rd Street and Route 45 in Palos Township. Amos Alonzo Stagg High School - 8015 W. 111th Street Palos Hills, IL 60465 On May 26, 1962, voters in the district approved a $2,100,000 bond issue to finance the construction of the second high school in the district located at 111th Street and Roberts Road in Palos Hills. Stagg High School opened in September 1964. Victor J. Andrew High School - 9001 W. 171st Street, Tinley Park, IL 60487 The third high school in the district opened in the fall of 1977, housing freshman and sophomore students. The first class graduated in 1980. Andrew High School is located at 171st Street and 90th Avenue in Tinley Park.
