The New Mexico Forest and Watershed Restoration Institute, housed at New Mexico Highlands University, provides technical assistance and practical knowledge in forest and woodland restoration. Our mission is to reduce the threat of catastrophic wildfire and restore healthy and sustainable forested ecosystems and restoration-based economies.NMFWRI's vision is to be widely recognized as a vital source of technical assistance and a key region-wide innovator and collaborator on the biophysical, socio-cultural, and economic dimensions of forest and watershed restoration.NMFWRI is a partner of the Southwest Ecological Restoration Institutes along with the Colorado Forest Restoration Institute (CFRI) and the Ecological Restoration Institute (ERI) in Arizona.
