Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Be a Content & News Junkie: You live and breathe content and have your pulse on consumer, entertainment, lifestyle, and sports media. You can spot trending stories and are closely tracking the ever-evolving media landscape.
  • Build Your Rolodex: You are in the early stages of building your editorial media rolodex. You aren't afraid to ask an editor to coffee. You have a burgeoning familiarity with reporters and are eager to cultivate long-term relationships with key contacts across print, online, and social outlets, especially in LA. You are exploring the world of niche newsletters, podcasts, and digital news creators.
  • Be the Information Hub: You will help organize resources and manage internal communications for the media team, including compiling and sharing editor updates, industry news, and upcoming editorial calendars to ensure our account teams stay ahead of the curve.
  • Dig for the Story: You are a research pro. Whether it’s conducting a deep-dive media audit on a competitor or researching a new journalist, you provide the team with thoughtful insights and POVs that help shape campaign strategy.
  • Secure the Coverage: You play an integral role in the media lifecycle for a variety of clients across HUNTER’s core practice areas. You will draft compelling pitches, build extensive and thoughtful media lists, and conduct outreach to secure placements for talent photos, events, and campaign launches.
  • Drive the Process: You are the backbone of project coordination and will work with account teams across various clients. You’ll actively contribute to account team calls and internal meetings by assisting with scheduling, creating agendas, and drafting the comprehensive recap notes that keep our work moving forward.
  • Own the Logistics: You are the engine that keeps media days running. From developing the first drafts of media briefing documents to assisting with the scheduling and logistics of celebrity spokesperson interviews, you ensure no detail is overlooked.
  • Master the Activation: You provide essential on-the-ground support for brand events and activations. You are comfortable engaging with media, talent, and photographers on-site to facilitate high-impact earned media moments and ensure every visual and interview opportunity is captured seamlessly.
  • Sharp Eye for Detail: You pride yourself on quality control. You will ensure all media materials, from pitch letters to follow ups are top-notch and error-free.
  • Navigate the New: Demonstrate a curiosity for emerging media. You are interested in how people discover news today and are eager to learn how LLMs/AI and social search are changing the PR industry

Requirements

  • The Experience: 1-2 years of PR agency or media relations experience where you’ve begun to "earn your stripes" in outreach and research.
  • The Knowledge: A degree in PR, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • The Tools: Experience with the industry’s "greatest hits" like Muckrack, Meltwater, and Critical Mention, plus proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Teams Excel, PowerPoint) and Slack.
  • The Attitude: You are a team player that shares credit, shows respect, and are always looking for opportunities to improve your writing skills and grow professionally.

Benefits

  • a hybrid work model;
  • a “work from anywhere in the US” policy (up to four weeks a year);
  • a year-round staff training and development curriculum;
  • a staff-led Action Group dedicated to DEI excellence in the agency and industry (read our DEI statement here: https://hunterpr.com/dei/)
  • Perks? We have perks. When you work at HUNTER, you can expect Bring Your Parents (And Kids) to Work Days, regular volunteer Days of Service, mid-day Cupcakes and Cocktails mixers and epic Halloween and holiday parties.
