Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Creative Director of Copy to help lead the creative voice as a partner to UX, creative, and brand design managers; establish and maintain on-brand voice and tone of all verbal/written marketing communications.
  • Cast strong creative vision and develop associated messaging strategies in support of brand identity and business unit initiatives.
  • Lead and is part of a pod of writers serving various business partners to execute on creative vision and messaging strategies by delivering branded creative that consistently maintains high standards in support of client goals.
  • Work closely with Content Strategy team to ensure digital content consistency as well as operational readiness of team to meet strategic objectives, budgets and timelines.
  • Lead/encourage brainstorming sessions and other initiatives to help motivate team to think creatively for campaign ideation and write creatively for headlines, yet also write technically about product information, all for the purposes of connecting with customers, driving sales and advancing company positioning.
  • Continuously evaluate/refine team’s copy and ability to engage audience by championing best practices and prioritizing the customer experience.
  • Leverage team’s collective knowledge of company and competitors as well as industry and broader cultural trends to inform and empower development of distinctive and innovative creative concepts and copy.
  • Manage a variety of communication initiatives across multiple projects to ensure that strategic objectives and written/verbal brand guidelines are met.
  • Manage the full creative journey through copy and written/verbal creative — from planning, mapping and generating messaging strategy to writing, editing and proofreading the final output of the written/verbal communication.
  • Foster collaboration between copywriters and product strategists to translate strategies outlined in creative briefs into engaging concepts and copy for various business units and clients; generate creative concepts that support marketing strategies and integrated campaigns.

Requirements

  • 5+ years related experience in leading the marketing writing and content strategy for a retail company and/or agency with a focus on creative and technical writing; experience in a scientific field preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree - Marketing, Communications, English, Journalism, Advertising or similar
  • Proven track record of directing both on- and off-line strategy, copy development, and communication execution; stronger focus on having a digital background is ideal
  • Leading a marketing creative and technical writing team
  • Strong understanding of advertising and marketing principles, strategies, tactics, technologies and production as it relates to strategy and copy execution
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships and work effectively with various levels of the organization by fostering collaboration with marketing leadership, clients, and other cross-functional team members throughout the company
  • Proven talent for high-calibre creative ideation, content strategy and marketing writing
  • Exceptional writing skills demonstrating excellent grammar, attention to detail, and story construction skills
  • Proven experience in writing creative and technical copy for both on and off-line marketing collateral; ability to write clearly and concisely for defined target audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to understand complex, abstract technical subjects and express them in a straightforward, consumer-friendly way

Preferred

  • Familiarity with SEO, Google AdWords, and social media advertising is a plus
  • Must have strong conceptual skills: creating new ideas that improve consumer response
  • Excellent spelling, proofreading and grammatical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively; strong presentation skills and ability to respond well to critical feedback
  • Candidate must have a demonstrated ability to multi-task effectively under pressure and balance speed and quality
  • Responds well and stays positive to constructive feedback and creative change requests
  • Adhere to OHS policies and procedures and ensure a safe and healthy workplace environment
  • Must have strong conceptual skills: creating new ideas that improve consumer response
  • Excellent spelling, proofreading and grammatical skills
