Florida Disability Access and Awareness Foundation, Inc

501(c)3 nonprofit develops media and technology projects that change how people think, see and feel about disability. Changing perceptions the modern way. Our goal was simple: finding the most effective way to promote empathy and understanding. In doing so, we wanted to highlight stories of real human struggle, drama and triumph. Disability awareness starts with a positive message. We want to spread hope and take on presumptions and stereotypes. We believe that in an inclusive society everyone wins. Disability should never affect you more than it absolutely has to and stop you from being the best version of you. At the same time, we recognize that people with disabilities deal with much more than just the limitations of their body and mind and their condition can have a much greater impact on the quality of life. The reactions, the stares, the comments. That’s why we focus on the outside world. We are located in a Florida college town, but the problems we want to help solve are age old and universal and our projects are global. To us a wheelchair and a cane are just tools and accessories. While many people fear them, to us they’re everyday items that can be fun, modern and even- fashionable. When you strip away everything else- the human story is always at the core. Through our student groups such as FDAAF Gators we engage the students to excite, involve and educate the youth and have them spread our passion. They will be our agents of change.
