Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the delivery of a communications action plan that aligns with organization objectives, clearly delineates goals and methods of evaluation, and budgets for estimated activity costs and resource needs.
  • Leads the Communications Team, ensuring oversight of the communications strategy implementation, including fundraising activities, social media, public relations, and digital marketing needs.
  • Communicates regular updates on the status of communications targets to the Executive Director.
  • Works with the Director of Development to align event communication and community awareness strategies, including the development of materials and/or communications to support outreach, fundraising, and volunteer and donor appreciation activities.
  • As a member of the Executive Director Team, support the development of the overarching organizational strategy, and provide quarterly updates for communication to the Board.
  • Participates in Executive Director Team meetings and activities, and communicates updates and highlights to the Team.
  • As Rukundo International is a small, growing organization, the Director of Communications is expected to be a hands-on role, whereas all Communication Team duties are expected to be performed by the Director of Communications in the absence of other Communications Team members.
  • The Director of Communications should be able to be reached within 24 hours for urgent issues, barring times of leave when a delegate should be identified.

Founded in January 2014, Rukundo International (RI) is a registered non-governmental organization (NGO) in Uganda, and registered 501(c)3 with an all-volunteer staff in the United States. Rukundo works as a partner and advocate for Kyanamira, a small rural community in the Kabale District of Southwest Uganda. We focus primarily on women and children to help ensure the community will have the necessary resources to reach their full potential. Our projects are developed collaboratively with local government officials, community leaders, and the people of Kyanamira, considering sustainably as a critical element.Rukundo Preparatory School is the flagship program of Rukundo International. Our school provides primary education to over 100 children. Besides the school, Rukundo also runs five other programs in the community: Women’s Agricultural Co-op, Girls Empowerment Program, Scholarships, Boy’s Soccer Program, and a Community Center. RI assists orphans, financially distressed families, and at-risk youth to impact the needs of those living in extreme poverty, by giving them opportunities to succeed in school and life.Milestones:•134 students enrolled at Rukundo Preparatory School.•1,165 girls graduated from our Girl’s Empowerment Program with the knowledge of entrepreneurship and healthy choices.•Close to 3,000 Ugandans with access to safe water through installation of four water sources •132 children engaged weekly in our Community Center programs. •56 students receiving support through our Scholar’s Program.•40 vulnerable boys “off the streets” mentored through our boy's soccer program.•22 women participating in our Women's Agricultural Cooperative •Over 34,000 healthy meals served at Rukundo Preparatory School.•More than 51,000 pairs of used shoes collected and sent to developing countries through our partnership with Funds2Orgs.To learn more about how to help, visit our website.
