Job Summary

Own and shape the visual storytelling for WYSO by capturing performances, editing short-form videos, and building an engaged community across a season.

  • Capture performances and build a material library
  • Produce short-form video and written posts on a regular cadence
  • Engage with families and grow the next generation of supporters

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Be present and capture. This is the core of the job, especially in the first several months. You'll spend Saturday mornings in rehearsal rooms and concert weekends backstage, shooting photo and short video on a phone(or your own camera). You'll get to know the orchestras, the conductors, the students, and the rhythm of a season, and you'll build a library of material that WYSO has never had.
  • Tell the story. You'll edit short-form video (primarily Instagram Reels), write posts in WYSO's voice, and publish on a consistent schedule (roughly three to four times a week during the season). The through-line is always the same: young people working and evolving. You'll work from a shared content calendar built around the concert cycle, enrollment season, and WYSO's development priorities.
  • Grow the community. You'll respond to comments and messages, help current families feel proud enough to share, and – over time – help WYSO reach the next generation of supporters: younger parents and professionals who care about music education and want to feel part of something.
  • Help us learn. Using platform-native analytics, you'll track what resonates and adjust. Nothing elaborate, just enough to make the next month smarter than the last.

Requirements

  • A portfolio of short-form video and photography that shows a good eye. We care far more about what you've made than how long you've been making it.
  • Comfort shooting in live, fast-moving settings (rehearsals, concerts, events) without being disruptive.
  • Clean, warm, accessible writing
  • Working fluency with mobile-first editing tools (CapCut, InShot, Lightroom mobile, or similar).
  • Reliable transportation and real availability on Saturday mornings and concert evenings/weekends, September through May.
  • Integrity and good judgment around working alongside young people and their families.

Preferred

  • A musical background of any kind, or genuine enthusiasm for what it looks like when kids make music together
  • Experience in arts, education, or youth-serving organizations
  • Familiarity with basic social analytics
  • Experience with Canva or Adobe tools

Benefits

  • Flexible schedule
