Job Summary

Own the day to day social content engine for a flagship university channel, balancing hands on content creation with live listening and risk spotting to protect the institutional voice.

Content ownership: produce posts, carousels, Stories, threads, and graphics while coordinating with campus media partners to keep the calendar and editorial ideas flowing.
Community leadership: respond to comments and DMs in Dartmouth’s voice, monitor sentiment, and surface issues for rapid escalation.
Insights and reporting: compile social listening updates and feeds for leadership and governance teams, turning conversations into actionable signals.

Job Description

Creates static and written content for flagship channels, including post copy, carousels, graphics, Stories, and thread-based content.
Sources and produces visual assets in collaboration with MPG videographers, designers, and campus photographers; occasionally captures photo and video content for time-sensitive moments where dedicated support is not available.
Contributes to content calendar planning and editorial brainstorms.
Supports campaign execution and high-profile institutional moments as needed – sometimes beyond normal working hours.
Manages community engagement across platforms by responding to comments, direct messages, and mentions in Dartmouth’s institutional voice.
Monitors social platforms daily for community sentiment, student voices, trending topics, and real-time moments.
Compiles regular social listening summaries — including daily AM/PM sentiment updates, trending conversations, and notable community moments — for the Associate Director and Director.
Prepares social listening data and insights for broader reporting needs, including contributions to board reports and institutional communications, in partnership with the Data Analyst for Web and Social Media and the Associate Director.
Flags risks, opportunities, and emerging issues to the Associate Director and Director for rapid response, and maintains ongoing awareness of the broader conversation happening about Dartmouth across platforms.
Demonstrates professionalism and collegiality through actions, interactions, and communications with others appropriate to an environment that is welcoming to all.

Bachelor’s degree plus 2 or more years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated experience producing content for social media platforms, with a portfolio of work that reflects strong writing and visual sensibility.
Strong copywriting skills, including the ability to write in a defined institutional voice across platforms with different tones and conventions.
Working knowledge of design tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, or Figma sufficient to produce graphics, carousels, and Stories.
Experience managing community engagement on social platforms, including responding to comments, direct messages, and mentions.
Familiarity with social listening tools and approaches, and the ability to identify trends, sentiment shifts, and emerging issues.
Sound judgment in determining what to escalate, what to respond to, and how to represent an institutional voice in public-facing interactions.
Strong attention to detail and willingness to take ownership of small tasks that add up to a polished public presence.
Familiarity with social media management platforms such as Sprout Social, Hootsuite, or similar.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse environment.

Experience in higher education, nonprofit communications, or a comparably mission-driven organization.
Experience collaborating with photographers, videographers, or designers to package content for social.
Familiarity with reporting on social media performance and using analytics to inform content choices.
