Job Summary

Own the product marketing function end to end, shaping positioning, launch strategy, enablement, and market insights across verticals.

  • Lead cross-functional launches with Product, Sales, and CS
  • Translate customer insights into product direction and go-to-market plans

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Build our product marketing function. You'll own positioning, messaging, and personas across our verticals — so every team tells the same sharp story to the right buyer. And you'll own it upstream, not just downstream: you'll have a seat in product planning, regular time on sales and customer calls (and in the call recordings), and ownership of the positioning source of truth the rest of the company works from.
  • Own how new products meet the market. You'll set our launch strategy — which releases warrant a full go-to-market push, what story each one tells, and what success looks like — then partner with Product, Sales, and Customer Success to deliver it: launch plans, messaging, release content, and internal readiness, so nothing ships quietly.
  • Set the enablement agenda. You'll figure out where deals stall and what the sales team needs to win — then build it: objection-handling frameworks, key narratives, use case examples, and playbooks. You'll train the team as we roll out new features and enter new verticals.
  • Be the voice of the market. You'll spend time with customers, prospects, and the field, and turn what you learn into insights that shape product direction and go-to-market strategy.

Requirements

  • Have 7+ years of B2B product marketing experience, including building or significantly scaling a PMM function. Experience in govtech or public sector SaaS is preferred, though not required.
  • Pair a strong point of view with hands-on execution. You develop a clear, well-reasoned perspective on positioning, priorities, and go-to-market strategy — and you're just as energized by bringing it to life. As our first product marketer, you'll be close to the work itself: writing the messaging, creating enablement assets, and running launches end to end.
  • Are a translator. You turn technical products into value stories that resonate with non-technical buyers — and you can flex that story across very different audiences, from a county public works director to an EHS director at a construction firm. You're just as comfortable turning those stories into help desk articles, long-form blog posts, and case studies.
  • Make sales teams better. You've built enablement programs reps actually use, and you help them understand — and sell — new features as they land, across every vertical we serve.
  • Think full-funnel. You see product marketing as spanning acquisition through expansion — you've run lifecycle or in-app campaigns and know how to grow revenue inside existing accounts.
  • Are endlessly curious about the market. You talk to customers and prospects without being asked and turn what you hear into insights others act on.
  • Work fluently with AI. You use AI tools in your day-to-day work and have a point of view on where they accelerate product marketing and where they don't.
  • Are comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity. We're a small, fast-moving team. You'll set direction with limited precedent, shift priorities as goals change, and take on responsibility beyond your job description.

Benefits

  • Forerunner is a mission-driven company with an interdisciplinary team. We are motivated by seemingly intractable problems and work hard to support one another.
  • We're mission-driven. Our mission orients our business strategy and pushes us to work with a sense of urgency. We're in the weeds — our entire team spends time engaging with our partners in the field to better understand the real-world problems they face.
  • We're a small team. As a member of our growing team, you will quickly become an invaluable part of our organization and have a meaningful impact on our business direction. We welcome unique perspectives and backgrounds. Your opinion matters and we hope you'll share it.
  • We want you to be happy and healthy. Forerunner offers competitive compensation, health/vision/dental coverage, and commuter benefits. We also have a quarterly wellness reimbursement so that you can have flexibility in defining what "health" means to you.
