Job Summary

Own Texas political communications strategy for a statewide governor race, shaping message, responding to media, and steering crisis communications; lead earned-media campaigns with reporters statewide and nationally.

  • Communications Ownership: Write and direct short and long term plans, draft press materials, and respond to inquiries to protect campaign narrative.
  • Media Execution: Develop pitches, manage press conferences, and execute creative earned-media campaigns across statewide and national outlets.
  • Crisis & Stakeholder Management: Coordinate with staff on difficult situations and manage multi-stakeholder communications in a high tempo campaign environment.

Job Description

  • On the record spokesperson for the governor’s race.
  • Plan and oversee events including press conferences, press calls, and creative earned media opportunities.
  • Draft media materials, including press releases, talking points, online content, and statements.
  • Write short and long-term communications plans.
  • Develop pitch ideas and pitch stories to reporters in Texas and nationally.
  • Respond to media inquiries.
  • Work with staff to manage difficult communications situations, including crisis communications.
