Job Summary

Own the Center’s publishing communications stream, coordinating production, promotion, and branding across books, journals, reports, and digital content while building a marketing plan that expands distribution and revenue.

  • Content Roadmap: Manage calendars and campaigns for communications, promotions, and digital presence.
  • Distribution & Revenue: Develop social media, PR kits, and branding work to broaden reach and monetize publications.
  • Collaborations & Quality: Align outputs with Center standards through cross-unit collaboration and press operations oversight.

Job Description

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the production and distribution of a wide array of published materials, including books, journals, policy reports and digital content.
  • Collaborate with various units under the Center to ensure that all content aligns with the organization's standards and objectives.
  • Coordinate the promotion of the Center's publications, research projects, events and initiatives; handle marketing and branding; oversee press operations; and produce and distribute various communications (e.g. listerv, social media, and website content).
  • Developing and implementing a marketing and business plan, such as a social media strategy and PR kits for publications, that helps the press unit increase publication distribution and generate revenue.
  • Handling permissions on copyrighted materials.
  • Developing content and calendars for communications and promotions.
  • Developing and writing a bi-weekly web-based e-newsletter, press releases.
  • Creation and design of branding and promotions materials (e.g., flyers, ads), social media graphics and copy, and the CrossCurrents newsletter (print and digital).
Requirements
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to create and manage a content calendar according to current events, releases, and projects in coordination with relevant internal units and external partners.
  • Working knowledge of design programs such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc) or similar programs.
  • Familiarity with social media and blogging platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Bluesky, etc.), Content Management Systems (WordPress), calendaring (Google Calendar), and basic HTML skills.
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines while coping with a fluctuating workload and competing requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build cooperative, effective relationships with staff, administration, faculty, volunteers, donors, vendors, alumni, media, and the general public.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction or supervision.
  • Ability to create and track publication sales and budgets including reconciling expenses, analyzing and projecting trends, and producing reports. Experience responding to inquiries and concerns in a customer service environment.
  • Knowledge of UCLA campus venues, services, and departments. Ability to attend some evening and weekend and off-campus events.
Nice_to_have
  • Working knowledge of online publication promotion/distribution outlets, such as Amazon Advantage (3rd party seller’s program), Google Books, and Google Scholar.
  • Working knowledge of business-related university policies and procedures. Knowledge of basic copyright laws and permissions.
