Own the public relations and content engine for a local Salvation Army area, shaping media coverage, donor communications, and social/web storytelling to drive awareness and credibility in the community.

  • Media relations and storytelling: plan and execute press, events coverage, and publication pieces as a communications lead.
  • Content and social stewardship: oversee website, social channels, newsletters, and cross-channel content marketing to show program impact.
  • Donor and stakeholder engagement: manage donor communications, advisory board liaison, and information updates through newsletters and targeted outreach.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, monitors and evaluates all public relations functions for an Area Command to ensure that The Salvation Army maintains a favorable and positive image in the communities; serves as liaison to all media ensuring the desired message is communicated; takes photographs and writes articles covering Salvation Army events; participates in coordinating and promoting special events.
  • Attends Salvation Army events and special meetings in order to take photographs and writes articles for publication in The Salvation Army periodicals and newsletters.
  • Writes various articles and press releases in order to communicate and promote the service and progress of The Salvation Army in the community.
  • Designs, develops, and prepares a quarterly newsletter designed to keep donors, media, and those requesting information of The Salvation Army up-to-date on the activities of The Salvation Army in the local area.
  • Contacts the media to create awareness of special interest or events of The Salvation Army; serves as a Salvation Army representative or spokesperson as directed; represents The Salvation Army in a professional and positive manner.
  • Oversees social media and website strategies and implementation. Responsible for content marketing for web, email, publicity, video, and social media including publishing stories on meaningful outcomes through these marketing channels. Develop and implements social media strategy through research, benchmarking, and audience identification; Create, maintain and grow new and existing social networks; measures the success of social media campaign; collaborate with other departments to ensure programs, events, and services are successfully communicated to donors and community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Relations, Communications, or a related field,
  • Three years progressively responsible experience coordinating fund-raising activities,
  • any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid State Drivers' License
