Job Summary

Own the studio operations and student training workflow in the Media Center, shaping hands on media production, teaching workshops, and mentoring Emerging Filmmaker Mentorship participants.

  • Own studio operations: maintenance, staffing, safety training, and post production lab support.
  • Educate and mentor students: teach recurring video recording/editing workshops and mentor emerging filmmakers.
  • Hands on production mentorship: guide student workers and support faculty in course execution.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Senior Associate Director and work with the Media Center team to assist with operations, services, and instructional work of the department.
  • Mentor the Emerging Filmmaker Mentorship Program through ongoing freelance media making experience.
  • Assist with equipment inventory and maintenance projects using technical knowledge.
  • Consult with and train students to utilize media tools and technology.
  • Assist with the maintenance and staffing of the Media Center Production Studio and staff help hours in the Post-Production Lab; help execute Media Center programming and assist faculty in courses.
  • Teach recurring technical video recording and editing workshops for Barnard film production courses.
  • Record, edit, and export digital material for special media projects, providing training to student workers.
  • Assist with safety training of studio patrons and help in the post-production computer lab; maintain studio space and equipment room.
  • Provide instructional and mentorship support to Emerging Filmmaker Mentorship Program students.
  • Assist with summer inventory and operational maintenance projects.

Requirements

  • Ongoing professional work in media production.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, film production, related field and/or commensurate experience.
  • Experience with video production & post-production from both creative and technical perspectives.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Suite and other media software.
  • Demonstrated experience with teaching and instruction of media techniques.
  • Highly organized with a strong record of working independently, meeting deadlines, and attention to detail.
  • Tact, diplomacy, and a supportive attitude towards colleagues, students, faculty, and senior administration.
  • Working knowledge of Professional Camcorders, SLR & DSLR cameras, Digital Cinema Cameras, wired and wireless microphones, lighting, backdrops, and related equipment.

Nice to have

  • Successful Producing experience guiding short films from pre-production through post-production.
  • Experience with video production in educational, research, or non-profit settings.
  • Experience with recording events, lectures, and panels.
  • Experience with maintaining production equipment in an equipment room, rental house, production studio, or on set.
