Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Creates a comprehensive website and social media strategy which promotes the district's goals and messages, increases visibility and delivers district information to internal and external stakeholders
  • Works with contracted web host/developer regarding technical aspects of the district's website
  • Designs images, banners, bullets, charts, maps, infographics, etc. to enhance the clarity and appearance of the district website and social media sites
  • Updates and expands information on website and social media to attract repeat users.
  • Develop, produce and edit creative and engaging mission-driven videos, photos, graphics and written content for the district communication channels (social media, website, e-newsletters and print media).
  • Serve as district journalist and storyteller, highlighting DPS people, purpose and progress, with a focus on quality video storytelling and photography.
  • Seek out photo and video opportunities and newsworthy stories in the district.
  • Work with the director to analyze and develop content for the district's social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and emerging platforms.
  • Develop day-to-day content for and manage and monitor the district's social media platforms.
  • Assist director with media relations (develop story ideas, pitch stories to media, supervise media on campus, respond to inquiries, and maintain contacts).

Requirements

  • SKILLS are required to perform multiple technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
  • Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: Superior written and verbal communication skills and excellent proofreading and editing skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of graphic design and desktop publishing, website design and development, and the general workings of the web and web servers.
  • Working skills in effectively using software such as Creative Cloud or Suites, InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat Professional, Microsoft Expression, etc., digital and video cameras and related software, and other communication-related, web-based applications.
  • Must be able to work under stress, schedule daily activities and establish short and long-term priorities in order to meet established deadlines, work independently, make sound decisions in routine situations and receive direction from immediate supervisor in non-routine situations.
  • Ability to understand district policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge: extensive knowledge of computers, other computer-related equipment, and computer applications as related to the duties and responsibilities of the job.
  • Multimedia production experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of the appropriate journalistic principles, practices and techniques for disseminating information to the public through electronic media including websites, blogs, social media, etc.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques used in planning, composing and editing electronic media and social media
  • Experience: Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
  • Education: Preferred Associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with a degree in public relations, journalism, graphic art and design, communications or related field; Bachelor’s degree desirable.
