Job Summary

Own media relations for a pro volleyball franchise, coordinating with league reps, an external agency, and game-day staff to ensure accurate, timely communications, branded storytelling, and consistent media coverage across press, website and newsletters.

  • Media Relations & Game-Day Ops: be the main contact for local and national journalists and manage credentials and media flow
  • Storytelling & Interview Readiness: write and pitch player/coach/franchise stories and prep assets for press conferences
  • Brand & Channel Alignment: coordinate with marketing, creative, and social teams to keep branding consistent across platforms and distribute league news timely

Job Description

  • Act as the primary contact for local and national sports journalists with a focus on game days
  • Fulfill media requests and credential applications in advance of game days and throughout each game
  • Work in tandem with external PR agency establishing clear and distinct roles, priorities and accountabilities
  • Write and pitch story ideas for various media outlets and influencers regarding players, coaches and franchise
  • Plan, write, and coordinate fan facing articles, stats and highlights for the bi-weekly company newsletter
  • Write game day recaps (match notes) and distribute to proper channels
  • Accountable for proper formatting, proofing, accuracy and timely distribution
  • Ensure up to date stats are presented on website, company server, and Major League Volleyball portals
  • Collaborate with volleyball operations and coach for scheduling and approval of interviews and media presence
  • Prep and provide insight to athletes, coaches, and front-office executives for press conferences and interviews
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or Sport Management
  • 3–5 years of experience working in public relations, sports, or media, with existing relationships in the sports media landscape
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, agency management abilities, and the capacity to multitask in a fast-paced game day environment- expect long hours during game days
  • Writes with precision, timeliness, proficiency, and grammatical accuracy
  • Relentless attention to detail regarding statistics
  • Volleyball experience is highly preferred
  • Experience working with media in support of a collegiate or professional sports organization
