Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Maintain your personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be an effective witness for Him.
  • Constantly monitor project activity to develop creative, relevant initiatives to generate beneficial media coverage.
  • Write, coordinate, and review press releases and media alerts for final review by the Media Relations Director and Executive Vice President.
  • Develop pitch lists to provide ministry updates to relevant media contacts.
  • Provide research and prepare briefings about interview subjects as needed.
  • Participate in relevant emergency response calls, meetings, and updates.
  • Assist the director in drafting, reviewing, and editing public statements for the President and CEO.
  • Travel as necessary during crisis events, evangelistic outreaches, and ministry projects to handle frontline media for the President's Office.
  • Make advance trips when needed to adequately prepare for upcoming events by developing media contacts, gaining awareness of local issues, and establishing site awareness.
  • Assist the Director in training spokespeople to represent specific ministry initiatives of the President and CEO.

Requirements

  • Bachelor\'s degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university and three (3) to four (4) years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience in news or public relations is preferred.
  • Strategic communication skills with the ability to analyze how current events and news issues impact Samaritan\'s Purse, BGEA, and people of faith, and communicate controversial and complex topics clearly and concisely.
  • Strong research and writing abilities, including key messaging for interviews and statements, reports, and business correspondence.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to define problems, collect data and research, think strategically, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and improve processes.
  • 12 credit hours of college-level Biblical Studies (required); if not already completed, opportunity to meet and complete requirement is available upon hire.
  • Travel as necessary during crisis events, evangelistic outreaches, and ministry projects to handle frontline media for the President's Office.
