Job Summary

Own the Division’s outreach and education agenda for public sector audiences and non‑English communities, coordinating experts to expand engagement and align content with the department’s mission.

  • Content alignment and analysis: vet external materials to match the department vision and objectives.
  • Stakeholder coordination: work with department subject‑matter experts to fulfill the division’s mission.

Job Description

  • Monitors and consults with department subject experts to coordinate the department marketing requests and expand engagement to fulfill the department’s mission to educate employers, workers and community-based organizations.
  • Performs critical analysis of the Department of Industrial Relations external content (online, audio, video, social messaging and printed materials) to ensure alignment with the department’s vision, goals and objectives.
  • Align the Division’s outreach and education efforts within the Department’s broader vision, goals and objectives.
  • Focuses heavily on public-sector outreach, content development, analysis, and managing communications for non-English speaking audiences.
  • Fluency in Spanish language. If the State of California does not have a current record documenting your fluency in this language, you will be required to successfully pass an approved language fluency test prior to being hired.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English in reading, writing, communicating, and editing.
  • Certified by the American Translators Association (ATA) or a documented equivalent or have a Bachelor’s degree in Translation and Interpretation from an ATA-approved school.
  • Statewide travel required within the state (25-50%). This position also requires responsiveness to the public, media and attendance of public meetings outside of normal business hours.
  • Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) required; Applications received without an SOQ will not be considered. Resumes and cover letters will not be accepted in place of an SOQ.
  • Candidates will also be required to take and pass a Professional Bilingual Proficiency Exam and fluency in Spanish and English in reading, writing, communicating, and editing.
  • Experience creating social media campaign plans, focused on increasing engagement with Spanish speakers, that included workers.
  • Experience heavily focusing on public-sector outreach, content development, analysis, and managing communications for non-English speaking audiences.
