Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Support the Fair Marketing and Communications team in attracting attendees to the fair.
  • Write press releases, media alerts, social media, web and newsletter content.
  • Gain skills in media training spokespeople, interacting with the media and influencers, pitching stories and responding to inquiries.
  • Respond to social media comments and messages.
  • Assists with implementation of public engagement and communications activities for department programs and projects.
  • Creates and/or edits communications content, including newsletters, press releases, social media content, special presentations, and other informational and outreach materials.
  • Assists in working with the departments as needed to design, produce, and distribute informational material to the public.
  • Assists in the development of a digital media strategy for distributing informational material to the public.
  • Performs other duties as assigned with an emphasis on communication and public engagement efforts.

Requirements

  • Must commit to at least 8 weeks
  • Hours can vary per week including remote work leading up the Fair
  • Must be able to work at the Fair in Monroe August 27-September 1 and September 3-7, 2026
  • Must provide proof of enrollment in an accredited post-secondary institution at the time of the internship (proof of enrollment for either the summer or upcoming fall term acceptable)
  • Candidates must be majoring in or have completed coursework in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or English
  • Must have proof of current enrollment in an accredited college or university at the time of participation; if not currently enrolled, proof of future enrollment
  • Special requirement: valid Washington State Driver’s License
  • If assigned to DCNR: must be available to work full-time (40 hours per week), in person, for the duration of the Evergreen State Fair

Nice To Have

  • Preferred completion of two years of post-secondary education
  • Preferred majors or programs of study include communications, event planning, English, journalism, political science, marketing, project management, sponsorship/fundraising, or a related field
  • Preferred proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Preferred proficiency in social media platforms such as Meta (Facebook and Instagram), X, LinkedIn, Nextdoor, and similar tools
