Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Develops comprehensive marketing and communication plans to strategically promote the vision, mission, goals, performances, and overall achievements of the Department of Music.
  • Researches, designs, and composes content for dissemination through a variety of mediums, such as internal or external publications, brochures, posters, newsletters, websites, presentations, development/fundraising materials, press packages, broadcast media, and social media channels.
  • Leads social media strategy and channel management, spearheading the department's digital presence across platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, LinkedIn) to build audience reach and brand recognition.
  • Drives social engagement and community building by proactively interacting with students, faculty, alumni, patrons, and the broader arts community, fostering two-way conversations, and responding to inquiries and comments in a timely, brand-aligned voice.
  • Creates dynamic, multi-format social content, including short-form videos (Reels/TikToks), live-stream promotions, interactive stories, event highlights, and behind-the-scenes features showcasing music rehearsals, faculty achievements, and student accomplishments.
  • Coordinates the end-to-end production of materials, overseeing content/style editing, layout design, print production, photography, videography, and copywriting.
  • Manages integrated communication calendars and production schedules, aligning social media campaign rollouts with performance dates, ticket sales, academic milestones, and work by external vendors.
  • Submits content and press features to external media, journals, and regional/national music associations, both proactively and in response to media requests.
  • Tracks and analyzes social media performance and campaign metrics, utilizing analytics tools to measure reach, engagement, follower growth, and conversion (e.g., event attendance, ticket sales) to continually optimize future communication strategies.
  • Prepares press releases and conducts public relations activities in close collaboration with University Communications and marketing staff.

Requirements

  • Enrolled student at Auburn University
  • Course work desired: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Business, Public Relations or related field.
  • Excellent writing skills for web content.
  • Knowledge and skill creating and editing content in WordPress or a similar web content management system.
  • Knowledge and skills in social media strategy and management.
  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite of software.
