About the Role

BMWL is hiring freelance Fellows to support campaign and communications work across our client roster. Fellows work alongside senior staff on live campaigns and public affairs projects, getting hands-on experience across digital advertising, writing, research and campaign operations. This is flexible, project-based work, a good fit for someone early in their career who wants real reps on fast-moving political and advocacy work.

What You'll Do

Proofreading & Quality Control

  • Review print and digital media for grammar, clarity, and brand alignment
  • Check campaign materials meet compliance and legal requirements (disclaimers, etc.)
  • Run consistency checks across messaging, visuals, and style guides

Ad Launches (Meta & Google)

  • Build and configure ad campaigns using provided creative and targeting parameters
  • Verify links, audience settings, and pixel/conversion tracking
  • Run pre-launch audits to confirm ads meet platform policies

Ad Copywriting (Meta & Google)

  • Draft multiple versions of headlines, body text, and CTAs for testing
  • Adapt language for different audiences, geographies, or campaign phases
  • Work with senior staff to incorporate feedback and maintain tone consistency

Digital Ad Reporting

  • Pull key performance metrics (impressions, CTR, conversions, spend) from ad dashboards
  • Build simple charts or tables showing weekly or phase by phase performance
  • Flag irregularities in performance or delivery for senior review

Social Media Management Support

  • Draft and schedule posts using content calendars
  • Handle light graphic editing or resizing images for social and ad use
  • Track basic engagement metrics (likes, comments, shares, reach)
  • Help moderate comments and flag misinformation or toxic content

Writing Support

  • Prepare first drafts of press statements, social posts, email copy, or one-pagers
  • Build messaging summaries or cheat sheets for internal teams
  • Help sharpen messaging for different audiences (supporters, press, policymakers)

Research Projects

  • Compile background briefs on candidates, ballot measures, policy issues, or opposition
  • Track news coverage, public statements, and social sentiment trends
  • Summarize third-party reports or polling data for quick team use

Daily Digital Ad Budget Monitoring

  • Check daily spend against allocated budgets on Meta and Google
  • Flag under-delivery, pacing issues, or unexpected cost-per-click spikes
  • Keep a simple log to help senior staff track budget adherence

Administrative & Systems Support

  • Organize campaign files in shared drives with consistent naming conventions
  • Maintain version control for documents, creative assets, and reports
  • Maintain spreadsheets or dashboards used by senior strategists
  • Help set up recurring project trackers (content calendars, ad reporting logs)
  • Run basic troubleshooting or coordinate with vendors on software issues

What We're Looking For

  • Strong writer, comfortable drafting copy for different audiences and platforms
  • Comfortable working with numbers, pulling metrics and building simple reports from dashboards
  • Detail-oriented, comfortable proofreading dense material against style guides and legal requirements
  • Some familiarity with Meta Ads Manager or Google Ads a plus, not required
  • Organized, comfortable keeping files, trackers and shared drives up to date
  • Able to turn work around fast, campaign schedules move on tight timelines
  • Interest in politics, campaigns, or public affairs a plus



Engagement Details

  • Freelance/contract basis, flexible hours
  • Remote-friendly, with availability for occasional check-ins with the BMWL/Axiom team
  • Rate $25-$50/hour commensurate with experience
