MPI Job Description *JOB TITLE:* Director, Product & Business Development *DIVISION*: Master Painters Institute *DEPARTMENT(S):* Master Painters Institute *REPORTS TO:* President, MPI *FLSA STATUS:* Exempt *SUMMARY* The Director of Product and Business Development leads strategic product management and contributes to business development and sales tactical plans that jointly will increase MPI’s growth and profitability. This position will serve in a dual capacity working with specifiers, customers, and asset owners on identifying their needs then taking the results of that work to identify and produce product development strategies and roadmaps. This role is critical to the future of MPI in ensuring that we have the right products, at the right time, to meet the needs of industry. This leader will also oversee our technical team leads, and technical committees, ensuring that our specification guides and standards meet the needs of industry. *ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* include the following. Other duties may be assigned. * Manage project teams responsible for product updates and new product development, report regularly on progress on development of new product initiatives and lead the go-to market strategy for those products. * Prepare capital budgets for new product development and hold project teams to those budgets. * Manage technical team staff, providing oversight of standards committee activities and identifying needed resources to ensure standards are kept current. Review standards to ensure they meet the needs of industry. * Research trends in the commercial coatings industry and manage product lifecycle management to ensure that MPI is staying ahead of those trends. * Promotes corporate brand and acts as a brand ambassador for the company. Ensures consistent customer satisfaction based on a deep understanding of customer needs. * Research customer needs and trends and uses the information to inform the business and product development strategies. Monitors industry activities and trends to help increase product offerings, revenue, and knowledge transfer to appropriate staff and member leaders. * Establish and maintain strong relationships with key constituents and asset owners to influence specification decision-making at the project design stage. * Act as a company representative at trade meetings, conferences, etc., as aligned with sales strategy. * From experiences out in the field, create enthusiasm for MPIs products, with a focus on identifying and securing MPI products getting specified. *SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES* Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. *QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS* To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This travel is estimated at up to 30%. *EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE* * A bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, marketing, communication, or related fields, preferred. * • * A minimum of five (5) years’ related experience in a leadership role and in Business and Product Development * Proven project management skills and demonstrated ability to lead a project from inception to market. * Technical coatings experience and/or nonprofit experience managing technical committees is a plus. * Strong presentation skills to introduce MPI and its products in a professional manner to engineers, purchasing agents, technical and non-technical staff within the asset owner community and federal, state, and local government agencies. * Ability to articulate MPI value proposition to industry, mission, programs, products and services to industry leaders and decision makers. *TECHNICAL SKILLS* Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CRM, Financials and budgeting.. *LANGUAGE SKILLS* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, members, employees of the organization, customers, and the general public. Fluency in other languages a plus (i.e. Chinese, Spanish, etc.) *MATHEMATICAL SKILLS* Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages pertaining to budgets, forecasts, and contractual agreements. *REASONING ABILITY* Ability to creatively solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form. *OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES* Ability to work independently or in a team. Must possess a specific level of communication skills both verbal and written. Ability to work in a multi-task environment considering various external factors and to communicate efficiently and accurately to both managers/supervisors and subordinate staff. Must be detail oriented. *SOFTWARE SKILLS* Must possess advanced computer skills in Project Management skills, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Multi-media Authoring tools and Learning Management Systems. Must have knowledge surrounding SCORM and TinCan methodologies. The ability to use Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline/Studio or other online authoring tools is a plus.
