Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic communications for a portfolio of principal and transformational gift donors across Mass General Brigham, in partnership with gift officers, faculty and hospital leadership and other key stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute high-priority writing and communications projects that advance fundraising priorities across Mass General Brigham, translating institutional priorities and funding opportunities into compelling donor-centered narratives.
  • Deliverables include proposals, case statements, donor correspondence, stewardship materials, PowerPoint decks, talking points, leadership communications, and custom projects, e.g. event communications and follow-up, and gift announcements.
  • Serve as a member of the Donor Project Management team, working closely with internal stakeholders, including development senior staff and leadership — as well as marketing and communications partners, donor project managers, gift officers, donor experience and donor relations colleagues, and others across the Mass General Brigham Development Office (MGBDO).
  • Serve as a key partner to and collaborator with the MGBDO’s Marketing, Communications, and Strategy team to ensure consistent, coordinated messaging, information sharing and workflows.
  • Partner closely with the Principal Gifts and Philanthropic Relations teams to shape key donor communications strategies and projects, including solicitations and ongoing donor engagement for top supporters.
  • Build trusted relationships across the MGBDO and Mass General Brigham system.
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment with excellent attention to detail.
  • Leverage communications, project management, and CRM tools to support content development and workflow efficiency.
  • Uphold editorial, stylistic, and design standards ensuring brand alignment and excellence in all materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required and 7-10 years of experience in strategic communications, preferably in development, science, healthcare, sales, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a complex, matrixed organization is preferred.
  • - Excellent persuasive written skills, ideally with experience translating complex scientific or medical information into clear, compelling language for a wide range of audiences, including donors.
  • - Outstanding writing, editing, and proofreading abilities, with experience producing print and digital marketing and communications. Expert attention to detail.
  • - Strong organizational, time-management, and project management skills; able to manage multiple projects, set and meet deadlines, manage work independently, stay calm under pressure, and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • - Highly effective interpersonal and relationship-building skills; demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse audiences, including staff, volunteers, clinicians, and leadership.
  • - Strong verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • - Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, often on tight deadlines with limited information.
  • - Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with e-communications, graphic design, photography, and digital communications technology.
  • - Strong analytical skills; able to extract, analyze, and communicate relevant data effectively.
