Job Summary

Own the end to end communications engine for a nonprofit, balancing strategy and execution across internal and external audiences.

  • Brand & Message Ownership: shape consistent messaging and design standards across print and digital, including crisis response.
  • Media & Stakeholder Engagement: lead media relations and serve as the primary spokesperson with journalists and partners.
  • Team & Impact Analytics: manage a communications team and report on impact to leadership to prove ROI.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an annual communications plan for school and community audiences.
  • Lead marketing, communications, and PR initiatives, including publications, media relations, social media, and website content.
  • Serve as the organization’s media representative and manage relationships with journalists and media outlets.
  • Oversee branding and design standards for all print and digital materials.
  • Provide strategic counsel to internal departments to ensure consistent messaging.
  • Manage crisis communications and respond professionally to challenging situations.
  • Analyze communication impact and report outcomes to leadership.
  • Supervise and develop a communications team, ensuring quality and consistency across all platforms.

Requirements

  • The ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages and disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels is critical.
  • Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies
  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
  • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently
  • Relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse to "manage by influence"
  • High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels.
  • Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
  • Normal physical activity including some bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting and carrying, which may range up to 35 lbs. upon occasion
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in marketing, communications, or PR
  • Demonstrated expertise in writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven leadership and strategic planning abilities.
  • Experience with media relations, branding, and digital campaigns.

Preferred

  • Experience in a nonprofit organization preferred
  • Masters degree a plus.
