Job Summary

Own and drive social-first storytelling for the World Surf League, turning surfer-facing narratives into engaging content across Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube, Facebook, and O+O while nurturing community conversation and trends.

  • Content Craft: ideate, produce, and publish video and static assets with a strong surf-voice for global audiences.
  • Community & Collaboration: engage followers, creators, and influencers; monitor sentiment and test new concepts with the team.
  • Ops & Trends: maintain calendars, docs, and best practices; support event coverage and shoulder programming with timely, platform-ready formats.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Identify, create and publish engaging social-first content that champions the WSL's values in supporting our global audiences and viewership on our social and digital channels including: Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube, Facebook & O+O.
  • Proactively build consistent content for our key narratives; inclusive of surfer-first and personality driven, from planning through execution.
  • Supports marketing/social/digital team in event coverage.
  • Assist in creating shoulder programming outside of event coverage, which includes promotional material and event wrap up content.
  • Cultivate and develop relations by staying connected to surf communities, engaging with followers, creators, and influencers through comments, and direct messages.
  • Write engaging and community focused copy with excellent attention to detail.
  • Assist in social media inbound admin such as announcements, partnership deliverables, WSL One Ocean and ad hoc requests.
  • Collaborate and seek latest trends, conversation, comment sentiment and audience interests with the team; both challenging the status quo and being open minded to test new concepts.
  • Highly organized in maintaining and updating departmental documentation, content calendars, and global best practices documents.
  • Video production and editing with a focus on social first content that speaks to the surf community.

Requirements

  • 1-3+ years of experience (inclusive of both internships and work experience) in social media and content creation
  • Must have strong working proficiency of Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Experience in supporting social media channels and owning content from ideation to publishing
  • Must have proficiency and understanding of social-first editing processes, formats [Vertical first], sequencing and best practices
  • Extreme attention to detail and composition with a strong passion for storytelling
  • Ability to work with phone, camera and audio equipment comfortably.
  • Willingness to learn and work collaboratively
  • Passion and deep knowledge of the professional surfing world is critical
  • Capcut (or similar platform) experience
  • Able and willing to travel both domestically and internationally (*travel not guaranteed as part of the position*)
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, including late nights and weekends depending on the WSL's event schedule
  • Position is based in Los Angeles (3 days in office per week required)
