Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Support the Manager, Communications and Marketing, in developing communications materials that advance organizational priorities, membership programs, and dive safety initiatives.
  • Content Development (Primary Focus)
  • Draft and edit short- and long-form written content, including blog articles, email newsletters, website copy, podcast episode descriptions, paid media/advertisements, and other materials as assigned.
  • Assist with proofreading and quality assurance across communications materials, helping ensure alignment with brand voice, editorial standards, and style guidelines.
  • Conduct basic research and fact-checking and collaborate with internal subject matter experts to ensure content accuracy and clarity.
  • Social Media Support
  • Assist in day-to-day social media publishing across platforms. (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, YouTube)
  • Monitor social media engagement and escalate responses as needed.
  • Track basic social media performance metrics and contribute insights to support ongoing optimization.
  • Contribute to social media content ideation and creation, including capturing photos and producing short-video content related to dive safety and DAN events (photography/videography experience not required)

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field
  • 1 to 3 years of experience (internships or entry-level roles included) in communications, marketing, or digital content creation
  • Strong written communication and storytelling ability across short- and long-form content
  • Editing and proofreading skills with attention to detail, quality, and accuracy
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and basic content best practices
  • Organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines
  • Proactive mindset with a willingness to learn and incorporate feedback
  • Willingness to complete the Open Water Diver eLearning course (paid for by DAN) within two months of start date; no physical diving required

Preferred

  • Experience working within nonprofit, membership-based, scientific, or education-focused organizations
  • Experience in scuba diving and/or water safety
  • Familiarity with WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or basic design/editing tools
  • Experience with photography and/or videography
  • Knowledge of AP Stylebook and newswriting standards
