Job Summary

Own and drive community strategy across Discord, Steam hubs, and Vyrex forums, including day-to-day moderation, release campaigns, creator partnerships, and knowledge-base updates. Lead weekly reporting, community events, and a growing moderator team while coordinating with developers on patch notes and announcements.

  • Day-to-day moderation and community engagement across platforms
  • Delivery of release campaigns, posts, and weekly cadence across channels
  • Build partnerships with creators and manage volunteer moderators

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Run day to day moderation and conversation across Discord, the Steam community hubs, and the Vyrex forum.
  • Write and publish patch notes, Steam announcements, devlogs and event posts from developer notes.
  • Triage player reports into something the team can act on: reproducible bug reports, tagged feature requests, and a short weekly summary of what players are actually complaining about.
  • Plan and run community moments around releases: launch days, playtests, closed betas, Steam Next Fest and seasonal sales.
  • Build and keep relationships with streamers, YouTubers and content creators in the space sim and sandbox space. Send keys, handle embargoes, follow up.
  • Keep a public knowledge base current: how to host a dedicated server, how to use the Workshop, how to file a crash log.
  • Maintain the community calendar and the social posting schedule.
  • Recruit, brief and support volunteer moderators as the community grows.
  • Report monthly on what moved: sentiment, member counts, wishlist and review trends, and what you would change next.
  • Deliverables: Release campaigns. A full community plan shipped on the day each game update ships: announcement copy, patch notes, Discord and social rollout, and the first 48 hours of response handling.

Requirements

  • Two or more years running a game or software community, or documented equivalent experience running a large volunteer or hobby community.
  • Hands on moderation experience with Discord and with Steam community hubs, including handling a bad day in public.
  • Clear, plain written English. You will be writing patch notes that thousands of people read, so we will ask for samples.
  • Comfort working directly with developers, in the same channels, without a layer of management in between.
  • Availability to overlap with US Mountain Time between 10:00 and 15:00 at least three days per week.
  • Able to work as an independent contractor in the United States and to complete a W-9.
  • Your own computer and internet connection capable of running and capturing both games.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with the genre: Space Engineers, EVE Online, Starsector, Factorio, Astroneer and their communities.
  • Steamworks backend experience: announcements, store events, Next Fest and playtest setup.
  • Basic image editing for social cards and store capsules.
  • Short form video capture and editing for clips and trailers.
  • Experience running closed betas or public playtests, including key distribution and NDA handling.
  • Light HTML or BBCode for posting to our own forum and site.
  • Experience building and running a volunteer moderator team.
  • A second language, especially German, Russian or Brazilian Portuguese, which are where a lot of our players are.
