What This Role Will Be Doing
The Communications Specialist is a key contributor to Wausau Supply Company’s internal and external communication efforts. This role supports the Communications & Digital Strategy Manager in developing, writing, executing, and distributing content that strengthens company culture, enhances employee engagement, and reinforces Wausau Supply Company’s brand across all channels.
The specialist is responsible for helping manage internal newsletters, corporate announcements, events-related communication, ESOP storytelling, social and web content updates, and cross-departmental communication initiatives. This position requires strong writing, attention to detail, and the ability to translate complex information into clear, compelling, and brand-aligned messages.
This role is ideal for a proactive communicator who excels in storytelling, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is passionate about driving culture through strategic communication.
Key Responsibilities
Internal Communications
  • Assist in the creation, writing, and editing of company-wide communications, including newsletters, announcements, leadership messages, and ESOP-related content.
  • Support the development and maintenance of communication calendars to ensure timely delivery of key messages.
  • Partner with HR, Operations, Safety, and other departments to gather information and craft clear, consistent internal messaging.
  • Help monitor and refine communication channels for clarity, engagement, and accessibility.
Content Creation & Brand Storytelling
  • Draft, edit, and proofread written content for print, digital, and video scripts.
  • Contribute to storytelling efforts that highlight team members, culture, milestones, and business wins.
  • Support the Communications & Digital Strategy Manager with content planning for organizational initiatives and events.
  • Maintain brand tone, style, and messaging consistency across all communications.
External Communications Support
  • Assist with website content updates and proofreading as needed.
  • Support social media content writing and execution in coordination with the marketing team.
  • Help prepare press releases, community relations content, and materials that reinforce Wausau Supply Company’s brand and reputation.
  • Support coordination with media contacts, community partners, and industry organizations when external communication needs arise.
Event, ESOP, & Culture Communications
  • Support planning and communication for internal events, celebrations, charitable initiatives, and ESOP-focused programming.
  • Assist with developing materials such as event briefs, signage, talking points, and follow-up communications.
  • Capture quotes, stories, and content at events to support future storytelling.
Communication Systems & Administration
  • Assist with communication distribution through internal channels and platforms.
  • Maintain organization of communication assets, photo archives, and content libraries.
  • Support cross-functional communication efforts by gathering content needs, updates, and feedback from internal partners.
  • Monitor communication engagement metrics and provide insights for continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, English, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
Experience
  • 2–4 years of experience in communications, writing, content development, or a related field.
  • Experience producing internal or corporate communications preferred.
  • Familiarity with digital communication tools, intranet platforms, or content management systems is helpful.
Skills
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to translate complex topics into clear, concise content.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud or basic graphic design a plus.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teams across the organization.
  • A positive attitude, curiosity, and commitment to continuous learning.
Working Demands / Physical Requirements
  • General office environment with ongoing computer and desk work.
  • Occasional travel to company locations or events.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed for event or communication materials.
