What We Want
The Communications Specialist II writes content, under general supervision, to help advance and elevate the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. Oversees the management of several VMBS social media channels/initiatives. Writes, edits, and improves content, including material prepared by others, for a variety of channels, including website news, magazines, electronic newsletters, and other collateral, for various internal and external audiences utilizing messages that are consistent with the college's and the university's strategic goals and brand. Oversees the college's digital signage.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in communications or journalism, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of communications and/or marketing experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional writing experience.
  • Ability to capture appropriate images, including ability to edit short videos, for social media.
  • Experience with content management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability working under deadlines.
  • Knowledge of social media analytics.

Responsibilities
Social Media Coordination
  • Manages and oversees the college's social media presences (@tamuvetmed and @tamuvetmedVERO) and initiatives on multiple platforms by researching trends, engaging in strategic planning, and assessing metrics.
  • Monitors and responds appropriately to online conversations following Texas A&M University and VMBS guidelines.
  • Works with other communications team members to develop graphics, photography, and videography for social media, including event coverage and promotion as needed.
  • Supports, creates, and deploys social media campaign strategic plans and social media advertising. Works with internal communicators to develop the college's social media calendar to promote the teaching, research, and service activities of the entire college, in alignment with the college's and university's strategic goals.
Content Creation
  • Researches, writes, and edits news and feature stories for print and digital channels in coordination with internal communicators.
  • Creates website content as needed, as well as copy for other communications, including, but not limited to, brochures, magazines, presentations, and reports.
  • Provides editing skills to ensure proper grammar, clarity, organization, style, and consistent formatting for both large and small print and electronic pieces.
  • Develops and maintains positive and productive working relationships with faculty members and students and stays abreast of upcoming activities.
Digital Marketing
  • Creates digital signage, including building, editing, and developing templates, in support of the college's digital presence.
  • Develops digital advertisements and runs social media ad campaigns for various VMBS departments.
  • Supports email marketing and development of college internal electronic newsletters, including the creation and editing of content and distribution.
Analytics
  • Produces reports and analyzes the performance of all social media channels and assesses the success of social media campaigns through the development of post-campaign reports.
  • Monitors and evaluates success of email marketing campaigns through analysis of metrics provided through EMMA, making recommendations for improvements for future electronic communications as necessary.
  • Monitors media coverage for school initiatives and events in support of clip tracking.

  • This position may occasionally require work outside of the standard Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., workday, including on the weekends, and travel on or off campus.

  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures.
  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements.
